Associate Producer - Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is a non-for-profit organisation that runs the Sydney Mardi Gras Festival and Parade as well as numerous other events throughout the year. Our general objective is to raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities.
The Festival Associate Producer contributes to the delivery of assigned SGLMG produced Festival events year-round, as directed by the Head of Festival. This is a temporary contract until 13 March 2026.
The role works collaboratively with the Festival Producer in the development and production of all assigned SGLMG events to world-class quality, significance, and reputation. The Festival Associate Producer will collaborate with the Festival Producer to ensure the programming of all assigned SGLMG events contributes to the Festival’s multi-tiered celebration, entertains, engages, and enthuses the LGBTQIA+SB communities, the wider community, tourists, and spectators alike.
The Festival Associate Producer manages aspects of the administrative, financial, creative, production, and technical work assigned by the Festival Producer in the preparation, planning, organisation, and implementation of assigned SGLMG produced events. Due to the scale of events, workplace and public safety are a key accountability of the Festival and Events teams, under the guidance of the Festival Producer.
The Festival Associate Producer will manage contracted relationships with talent, artists, agents, and related talent entities as assigned by the Festival Producer. Sponsorship and media partnerships are essential relationships, and the Festival Associate Producer will assist the Festival Producer to ensure these relationships are successfully nurtured.
Objectives
Key role objectives:
- Deliver world-class events across a multi-platform and multi-genre event strategy.
- Liaise with and maintain key stakeholder relationships including LGBTQIA+SB communities and organisations, government agencies, venues, and partners.
- Maintain and champion the organisation core values and adhere to the organisation ethics charter.
- Maintain budgets with minimal variance between forecast and actual expenditure.
- Provide relevant and timely input to the Festival Producer on assigned work areas and project deliverables.
- Support the Festival Producer in managing any applicable revenue streams and appropriate reporting associated with these streams.
- Effective delivery of event production and operations in various event environments.
Qualifications & Experience
Required qualifications and experience include:
- 3+ years or more as an Associate Producer, Producer, or Event Manager in various event environments.
- Demonstrable project management skills and experience with relevant ERP tools.
- Experience and knowledge of event production and operations including technical, interpreting technical drawings, producing event manuals and documentation, reviewing and complying with risk documents.
- Work Health & Safety knowledge including the WH&S; Act and relevant legislation.
- Previous experience working with the LGBTQIA+SB and/or First Nations communities.
- Experience in effective negotiation and dealing with conflict.
- Experience working with competing priorities in a dynamic environment with an ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent crew and staff management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively in a diverse team workplace.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Experience in artist/talent management.
- Confident at presenting and public speaking.
- Excellent skills in using Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
