Social Enterprise Business Development Coordinator (Volunteer)
The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is developing new social enterprise initiatives to strengthen our financial sustainability, support local communities, and expand our impact. The Social Enterprise Business Development Coordinator will play a key role in researching, planning, and guiding the development of these initiatives, ensuring they are mission-aligned and financially viable.
This role is ideal for someone with skills in business development, entrepreneurship, or social enterprise who wants to use their expertise to make a meaningful difference for people and the environment in the Darling Downs region.
Responsibilities
* Research and assess opportunities for social enterprises that align with DDEC's mission and values.
* Support the development of business models, feasibility assessments, and funding strategies for proposed initiatives.
* Work with the DDEC Management Committee and Finance Working Group to scope enterprise concepts and prepare proposals.
* Engage with stakeholders (e.g. local businesses, community organisations, investors) to identify partnerships and potential customers.
* Contribute to the development of marketing and communications strategies for the enterprise(s).
* Provide recommendations on governance, compliance, and operational requirements.
* Where appropriate, support grant and sponsorship applications related to enterprise development.
Skills and Experience
* Background in business development, social enterprise, entrepreneurship, or related field.
* Strong research, planning, and organisational skills.
* Ability to assess financial viability and prepare simple business plans or models.
* Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Commitment to DDEC's mission of protecting and restoring the Darling Downs environment.
Time Commitment
* Approx. 35 hours per week (flexible, remote or in-person as suits).
* Minimum commitment of 3 months, with potential to extend.
Support and Supervision
* Reports to: DDEC Coordinator and Finance Working Group.
* Works closely with: Management Committee and relevant project teams.
* Training and induction provided.
