Salary : 120,303 - $135,701 + additional remuneration + up to 15.4% Superannuation
The Role
We have several opportunities for qualified Science and Engineering professionals with extensive knowledge of nuclear safety and radiation protection principles, and relevant experience in high-hazard regulated environments. You should be able to incorporate scientific, engineering, and behavioral reasoning into nuclear safety, radiation protection, regulation, and licensing.
You will join the Regulation and Licensing directorate within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Regulatory Design team. Our Nuclear Specialists support the directorate in establishing and delivering key functions for the future Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR), such as licensing regulated activities, monitoring, compliance, investigation, and regulatory actions.
As an EL 1 Assistant Director - Nuclear Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing complex nuclear engineering and science work, exercising independence, and serving as a subject matter expert.
Key responsibilities include:
* Having sound knowledge of nuclear safety and radiological protection principles.
* Possessing or obtaining in-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, government decision-making, and policy requirements related to nuclear regulation and licensing.
* Providing expert advice on licensing facilities and conducting regulatory audits, inspections, compliance, and assurance related to nuclear-powered submarines under the future ANNPSR framework.
* Managing stakeholder relationships and communicating methodologies to achieve outcomes.
* Contributing to ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
Note : International travel will likely be required for training and development, including work abroad in the UK or USA for periods from three to 24 months, along with domestic travel for training opportunities.

Exceptional candidates may be eligible for additional remuneration through BDCP or IFA, which may include extra pay or conditions beyond the base salary plus superannuation.
