Strathcona Girls Grammar School, located in Melbourne's vibrant eastern suburbs, is seeking an innovative, engaging, and qualified Instrumental Music Teacher of Guitar to join our dynamic team. With three campuses in Canterbury and Hawthorn, Strathcona is a medium-sized girls' school that also caters to boys and girls in the Early Years Centre. About the role

We are seeking an experienced Instrumental Music Teacher of Guitar to join our passionate and accomplished Music Department starting in Term 1, 2026. Instrumental Music Teachers report to the Head of Performing Arts - Music and are employed on a casual basis. Staff are remunerated in accordance with VMTA rates, and the successful candidate will ideally be available to work on Fridays.

This position comprises approximately three hours of instrumental tuition and one hour directing the Guitar Ensemble. We are seeking a teacher who engages students effectively, contributes positively to the team, and actively improves participation in guitar across the school. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to developing musical literacy and be confident teaching both classical and contemporary guitar styles.

Instrumental Music Teachers are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, managing individualised instrumental programs, assessing and reporting on student progress, and contributing to the presence and quality of musical outcomes in the broader school community.


What you will bring

* Demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching guitar
* A genuine passion for teaching both the instrument and young people
* High-level organisational skills to plan rehearsals and learning sequences, track student progress, and report effectively
* A relevant tertiary qualification in Music
* WWCC (Employee) is mandatory; VIT registration is highly advantageous
* Willingness to participate in rehearsals, concerts, workshops, and music camps
* Familiarity with and experience in preparing students for examination systems such as AMEB and Trinity
* Strong interpersonal skills to engage positively with students, staff, parents, and the wider school community in a collegial, team-focused manner
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism and high standards
* Proficiency in information and communication technology
* Willingness to support and uphold the values and teachings of the Christian tradition
