Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an Area Sales Manager who will be a trusted advisor and business partner to retailers, forming a symbolic relationship to drive retailer sales, profitability, compliance, and ultimately success. This, in turn, will be a key force to drive Metcash sales and growth.
This role 'owns' the relationship with his or her retailer store, and act as the primary contact for all interactions with Metcash. Where necessary, he or she calls on the support of other Retail Ops teams (such as Fresh specialists for Fresh support, Project team for DSA etc.)
What you'll do
- Build and develop relations with retailers Foodland's and IGA's, becoming the key point of contact for retailers at the store level
- Liaise with Retail Business Manager and Sales & Ops Manager to coordinate support from State Fresh specialists, Project Managers, and RMS where necessary
- Liaise with buyers, inventory, and logistics to resolve stock issues
- Provide business support (e.g., help with business planning, store strategy and budgeting, commercial decisions) to ensure stores' success
- Advise on new lines, ranging, ticketing, catalogue compliance and identify wholesale sales opportunities (incl. Charge through, Weekly best deals)
- Use available shoppers' and stores' data (e.g., demographic trends) to advise on additional range opportunities
- Conduct operational and compliance checks e.g. OEP & FSA in order to drive retail standards and brand protection
What you'll bring
- Grocery retail management knowledge and sales experience in the retail supermarket sector at store manager or multi-site level
- Strong understanding of Fresh & Produce in terms of food safety and compliance, product knowledge etc
- Expertise in drawing consumer and store insights from data to inform and conduct business management, strategic planning, and problem solving in the retail supermarket sector
- Influencing skills and ability to rapidly establish trust and build relations with retailers (owners and managers)
- Demonstrate effective promotional and sales skills, with a strong track record of meeting aggressive or exceeding sales targets
- Ability to convince, persuade, and close successful deals
- Country / Regional travel required
