Senior Accountant – Revenue & Treasury
Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Revenue & Treasury team. This is a key professional role contributing to the delivery of high-quality financial management and advisory services across Council.
About The Role
As part of the Revenue & Treasury team, the Senior Accountant will contribute to the provision of high-quality financial management and advisory services across a broad range of financial matters.
The role is responsible for delivering Council’s treasury services, including debt and investment management, banking, trust fund management and taxation, within a local government environment.
The position will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive understanding of Council’s revenue systems, incorporating rates, property services, water billing and sundry debtors, and providing expert advice to support sound financial decision-making and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Financial Accounting Specialist, Revenue and Treasury Coordinator or Management Accounting Coordinator, the Senior Accountant will:
Provide expert financial advice, analysis and recommendations to internal stakeholders across Council. Deliver treasury services including debt and investment services, banking, trust fund management and taxation. Assist in the preparation of Council’s annual financial statements, budget and Annual Report. Contribute to internal control frameworks, financial policies, procedures and system improvements. Support major projects through financial analysis, monitoring and reporting. Assist with internal and external audits and respond to audit queries as required. Undertake investigations and reviews as requested by management. Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, auditors, government departments and the community.
About You
You are a finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise and experience working in a complex organisation, ideally within local government or a similar regulated environment. You are analytical, adaptable and confident providing high-level financial advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in business, finance, commerce or accounting (or equivalent). Significant practical experience in accounting, financial management or project management. Highly developed ability to provide sound financial and business advice. Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and contribute to continuous improvement.
Desirable
Eligibility for membership of CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand. Experience in local government accounting, legislation and audit requirements. Knowledge of local government revenue systems and council financial systems.

Annual salary of $107,933 Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply). Choice of 4 or 5 weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading. 9-day fortnight roster. May be eligible for salary sacrificing options.
