Electrical Engineer for Antarctic Research Stations
About Us:
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We are responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
Our Team:
The Assets and Technology (A&T) Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support our Antarctic Program.
Section Overview:
The Infrastructure Strategy and Planning (ISP) Section acts as the asset owner for our research station infrastructure. We provide engineering and asset management expertise, develop maintenance planning, drawing management, and inventory systems to support station maintenance, operation, and construction.
About the Role:
We are seeking an electrical engineer to provide expertise in managing electrical systems at our research stations in Antarctica and Macquarie Island. The role covers a broad range of electrical system engineering aspects, including independent energy systems, high-voltage distribution systems, and building monitoring and control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage complex projects and maintenance operations
* Work independently and as part of a team
* Travel to Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions
Requirements:
* Strong electrical engineering knowledge and experience
* Australian citizenship
* Ability to pass pre-employment checks
Desirable Qualifications:
* Expertise in renewable energy systems
* Experience working in polar or remote environments
