The role
We are currently recruiting for a Marine Engineer to ensure the optimal and safe condition of TasPorts tugs through mechanical and systems expertise. Reporting to the Manager Towage the role provide advice on the safe operating condition of plant and machinery, demonstrating specialist skills and problem-solving abilities.
The role is based in Burnie and will need to reside within 100km of the Burnie port.
Key Duties
* Maintain vessels by carrying out routine maintenance & programmed maintenance as per the programmed schedule and budget.
* Maintain records, requisition spare parts, consumables and capital items and assist with the preparation of survey and dry dock specifications.
* Supervision of personal undertaking and assisting in the engineering function.
* Maintaining a high standard of engine room housekeeping.
* Responsible for the safe operation of the winch under direction of the Tug Master during harbour towage.
* Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements in disposal of wastewater and sludge.
* Adhere to all TasPorts health, safety and environment requirements including the reporting of near misses and hazards as well as the use of correct Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Proven experience in vessel maintenance and engineering.
* Proven experience at sea or within the maritime industry.
* Proven ability to use sound judgment to resolve operational problems.
* Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills and proven experience in an effective team environment
* Experience in an industrial environment with knowledge of WHS and environmental risks and hazards and a demonstrated commitment to safe working procedures.
* Sound experience in administrative processes and procedures including good computer skills and the ability to utilise Microsoft Office software.
What you will have
Essential Qualifications
· A minimum Marine Engineer Class 3 with relevant engineering trade certificate or Higher
· Statements of attainment in Provide First Aid including Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
· Current unrestricted Tasmanian Drivers Licence
· A current AMSA Medical
· A current Maritime Security Identification Card (or ability to acquire and maintain)
Desirable Qualifications
· Marine Engineer Class 1 or 2
· Confined space entry
· Working at heights
· Harbour towage experience
