Role Overview We are seeking a commercially minded legal professional to provide proactive legal advice across the business, focusing on franchising, property and leasing, corporate operations, and compliance. The role supports business transactions, growth initiatives, and executive decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities Franchising & Commercial Law
Draft, review, and negotiate franchise agreements, disclosure documents, and renewals.
Oversee franchise recruitment, sales, renewals, and terminations.
Ensure compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct and Australian Consumer Law.
Support Franchise Development and Operations teams in implementing franchise documentation.
Property & Leasing
Review and negotiate lease agreements for company‑owned and franchised locations.
Liaise with landlords and agents to safeguard leasing interests.
Provide advice on lease compliance, notices, and dispute resolution.
Corporate Governance & Compliance
Stay informed on legislative changes affecting the business and ensure company policies comply.
Manage trademarks, intellectual property, and licensing matters.
Oversee preparation of NDAs, supplier agreements, and contractor arrangements.
Dispute Resolution & Risk Management
Advise and manage disputes involving franchisees, suppliers, employees, or landlords.
Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Coordinate with external counsel as needed and ensure cost‑effective management.
Strategic & Commercial Support
Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on risk exposure and structuring.
Contribute to corporate strategy and policy development from a legal perspective.
Deliver training on legal and compliance matters for staff and franchisees.
Essential Skills & Experience
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a current practising certificate (or eligibility for one) in Australia.
Minimum of 5 years post‑admission experience in commercial, franchising, or property law.
Strong understanding of the Franchising Code and Australian Consumer Law.
Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and commercial advisory skills.
Advanced communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
Desirable
In‑house experience in a franchised or hospitality/retail business.
Exposure to intellectual property and brand protection.
A pragmatic, business‑oriented approach to legal problem‑solving.
