The University of Newcastle Research Associates Limited (TUNRA) is a controlled entity of the University of Newcastle, delivering high-quality research and consultancy services to industry and government in Australia and internationally.
TUNRA is seeking an Executive Officer to provide high-level strategic, operational and governance support to the General Manager in a confidential and autonomous capacity. This is a trusted advisory role requiring sound judgement, discretion and the ability to operate independently within a complex, governance-led environment.
About the opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Executive Officer plays a central role in supporting organisational governance, workforce and HR compliance, systems and process improvement, and the delivery of strategic initiatives that underpin TUNRA's ongoing growth and performance.
This role will suit someone who thrives in senior support roles where influence, judgement and initiative are critical, and where there is genuine scope to drive improvement and uplift capability across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include
* Providing high-level governance, strategic and operational support to the General Manager
* Supporting organisational governance, workforce and HR compliance, and employment administration
* Leading and coordinating internal improvement initiatives, including systems and process uplift
* Owning and managing key business platforms, including SharePoint, to strengthen information governance and document control
* Preparing briefings, reports and papers for meetings and committees
* Coordinating projects and initiatives arising from executive and committee outcomes
* Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders within a university-affiliated environment
About you
You are a highly capable senior professional with experience operating in complex, regulated or governance-led environments. You bring strong judgement, discretion and the ability to manage competing priorities while working independently and confidentially.
You will ideally bring:
* Experience supporting senior leaders within governance-focused organisations
* Strong understanding of workforce and HR compliance and employment frameworks
* Demonstrated experience in systems, process improvement and organisational capability uplift
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and briefings
* Strong organisational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail
* Confidence operating autonomously and acting as a trusted advisor
Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in senior administrative, governance or strategic support roles will be highly regarded.
