Aquaculture Technician Job Overview
As an Aquaculture Technician, you will play a vital role in daily operations monitoring prawn health, maintaining water quality, and ensuring smooth farm activities.
This is a hands-on role that requires physical stamina to work in hot, humid, and wet environments. The successful candidate will have strong observational skills with great attention to detail, be self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable to varying shift work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Daily Operations Monitoring: Assist with daily farm operations, including pond remediation, feeding, aeration, and water quality monitoring.
* Prawn Health Assessments: Support prawn health assessments and biosecurity practices to ensure optimal growth conditions.
* Farm Record Keeping: Maintain accurate farm records using digital systems.
* Equipment Operation: Operate farm equipment (training provided; prior experience advantageous).
* Health and Safety: Follow food safety, environmental, and workplace safety protocols.
Requirements:
* Physical Abilities: Not shy of physical work – able to work in hot, humid, and wet environments (including entering ponds when required).
* Observational Skills: Strong observational skills with great attention to detail.
* Adaptability: Self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable to varying shift work.
* Transportation: Hold a driver's license and have reliable transport to site.
* Digital Literacy: Comfortable using iPads for digital record-keeping.
* Additional Qualifications: Forklift/backhoe/excavator/truck licenses (advantageous but not essential). Tertiary qualifications in Aquaculture (a bonus, but not mandatory).
