Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join their dynamic team. This role is pivotal in delivering accurate and detailed cost projections for product manufacturing, enabling the business to make informed financial decisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating expenses related to labour, materials, equipment, overhead, and other factors. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with various teams, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring alignment on cost factors and project expectations.
What you'll do:
As a Cost Estimator, your primary responsibility will be to deliver precise cost projections that enable the business to make informed financial decisions. You'll develop detailed cost breakdowns for each phase of manufacturing, estimate quantities, calculate unit costs, and use specialised software or Excel to document your findings.
* Develop detailed cost breakdowns for each manufacturing phase.
* Estimate quantities and calculate unit costs for materials, labour, equipment, and overheads.
* Use specialised estimation software or Excel to document and model cost data.
* Attend project meetings to update cost estimates as plans evolve.
* Create comprehensive cost estimation reports for stakeholders.
* Monitor actual costs as the build progresses and update estimates as needed.
* Review past estimates to improve the accuracy of future projects.
* Develop benchmarks for generic scopes of work for providing clients with quick budget estimates.
* Ensure compliance and adherence to the businesses operational systems.
* Lead safety on site and ensure compliance to HSE Management system.
What you bring:
* Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
* Experience in Metal Fabrication - Estimator or related field.
* Strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication processes and equipment.
* Proficiency in mathematical calculations and software (CAD, spreadsheets).
* Excellent communication, attention to detail, and negotiation skills.
* Understanding of industry regulations and standards.
* Ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and predict cost implications.
* Up-to-date knowledge of current labour rates, material costs, and market conditions.
* Understanding of global factors like supply chain fluctuations, inflation, and emerging technologies affecting cost.
