Driving Australia’s Circular Economy Future
Living & Working in South Australia
Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) is recognised as one of Australia’s most progressive waste management and resource recovery authorities at the forefront of energy recovery, materials diversion, circular economy leadership and innovation. NAWMA is growing rapidly through the State’s targeted housing growth policies and economic activity.
A regional subsidiary formed under the Local Government Act (SA) 1999, NAWMA provides best practice waste management and resource recovery services. NAWMA receives and processes material for a range of clients including businesses, industry and regional SA councils with its predominant services being for its 3 Constituent Councils: City of Salisbury, City of Playford and Town of Gawler. NAWMA is run as a business, owned by Local Government, rather than as a Council offshoot. To that end, it offers a unique combination of business challenges, operations, governance, finance and technology.
The NAWMA Board is seeking an exceptional CEO to shape the next decade of waste, energy and resource recovery solutions for Northern Adelaide. This role offers the rare opportunity to steer a sophisticated organisation through growth, transformation and major strategic decision‑making, including the evaluation of long‑term landfill alternatives and the development of next‑generation recovery and resource‑optimisation systems.
As CEO, you will:
* Set, deliver and champion NAWMA’s strategic direction
* Lead a high‑performing, values‑driven workforce and culture
* Oversee complex operations, assets, major projects and commercial partnerships
* Drive innovation across recycling, organics, energy recovery, residual waste and circular‑economy initiatives
* Build strong relationships with Councils, regulators, industry, partners and the community
* Provide confident public leadership in a changing regulatory and environmental landscape
You are an accomplished executive with a track record in complex service delivery ideally within waste management, resource recovery, infrastructure, water utilities, environmental services or local government. You may also be from a production, utility or contracting/consulting background with the capability of adapting to the solid waste management industry. You bring commercial acumen, strategic clarity and strong stakeholder influence, supported by exemplary communication and governance capability.
Qualifications in engineering, environmental science, business, commerce or a related discipline are essential; postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
This is a career‑defining opportunity to lead a respected authority and deliver enduring environmental, economic and community outcomes for Northern Adelaide and contribute to Australia’s national circular economy ambition.
