ABOUT THE ROLEPlease read all information carefully before applying.Under general supervision, this position contributes to the delivery of the Council Facilities Team and building maintenance/construction program. This position is responsible for a range of general labouring and quality maintenance and construction techniques, including carpentry, painting, tiling, concreting, fencing and metalwork.Employment Status: Full Time, PermanentAward: Level BW1 – BW2 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream C) Award – State 2017Salary Range: $2194.70 to $2375.40 per fortnightABOUT YOUThe successful candidate will have:| Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |Demonstrated experience in the building/ construction industry or similar.Experience in a Trades Assistant or similar role.Experience completing general maintenance and manual/labouring activities.The ability to operate a range of hand and power tools competently and safely.The ability to work under general supervision of a tradesperson, or with minimal supervision individually or as part of a small team.| Essential Education/Qualifications |Completion of Year 10 secondary schooling or equivalent.Asbestos and Silica awareness training or ability to undertake training.Possession of White card (Construction Safety Card).| Essential Licences |Possession and maintenance of a current Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/POSITION ENVIRONMENTThis position requires the incumbent to undertake field work exposed to inclement weather.The ability to carry out the physical requirements of the position – standing or long periods, manual handling, physical labour.This position will be required to work in Council’s Regional townships, which may involve overnight or longer stays in those townships on an occasional basis and driving for long periods.Ability to work at heights (scaffolding / EWP) including trestles, scaffolding or within an Elevated Work Platform.Ability to use a wide range of small plant, power tools and equipment.Council is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
