Swickers Kingaroy Bacon Factory is an export meat processing facility, based in the South Burnett Region and is ideally located just 2 - 3 hours' drive to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast. Swickers has been in operation in Kingaroy for over 50 years and today employs approximately 850 employees.

As part of the SunPork Group, Swickers is a state-of-the-art processing facility specialising solely in the production of fresh pork and distributing it widely across Australia and internationally. Swickers processes 95% of all Queensland's pork production, including the production of various pork value-add products for consumers worldwide. Swickers is the largest Australian owned pork processor and continues to be a market leader in pork production.


Job Description


The opportunity:

Our drive is to continuously improve and increase our sites capacity, efficiencies and preventative maintenance systems and processes. To support these initiatives, currently seeking a Plant Engineering Manager to join our team.

Reporting to the General Manager, this role is responsible for driving our engineering department strategy and objectives, overseeing all continuous improvement, engineering and maintenance operations for the plant and where necessary, providing technical advice and assistance.

Our plant engineer with ensure ongoing reliability focus and plant availability through appropriate systems and processes. This role leads the engineering department, ensuring clear direction, focus and interdepartmental support driving successful outcomes across site.

Main duties will include, but are not limited to:

* Provide strong leadership as part of the Senior Management Team, working closely with the Plant Manager and GM Operations.
* Oversee the site's Reliability Program and drive continuous improvement in maintenance systems and processes.
* Manage maintenance operations, including stores, procurement, and team development, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
* Support production by optimising plant performance, reducing downtime, and improving cost efficiency through planned maintenance strategies.
* Lead the development and execution of the Plant Maintenance Strategy, including reliability-centered maintenance and CMMS (MEX) utilisation.
* Coordinate engineering functions, long-term planning, and capital projects, including budgeting and feasibility studies.
* Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards while supporting safe food production in a sustainable workplace.
* Drive engagement, accountability, and high-quality workmanship across the maintenance team.
* Carry out all reporting obligations to ensure efficient and timely management of operations.


Desired Skills and Experience


What we're looking for

Swickers has established an efficient, highly skilled yet diversified team. As a key member you will have:

* Tertiary engineering qualifications (Bachelors degree or advanced diploma), preferably mechanical.
* Highly desirable lean manufacturing experience, Lean Six SIGMA Green/Black belt
* Demonstrated ability to provide a systematic approach to maintenance through adopting RCM and best practice reliability and maintenance techniques best suited to the situation.
* Demonstrated experience and successes in reliability and plant availability improvement.
* Strong project management skills,
* Ability to understand statistical and analytical data and use it practically to the advantage of the site..
* Strong, proven and experienced team leader
* FMCG background priority (food manufacturing production highly regarded) – at least 5 years
* Experienced and demonstrated Safe Work practices
* Excellent communicator
* In-House or external Frontline Management Training
* Advanced MS Office, CAD, MEX – preferred
* Experience and exposure to Budget/CAPEX/Plant design and Continuous Improvement.
