A newly developed role has opened at a well-established and highly regarded commercial mechanical/HVAC contractor in Melbourne. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced HVAC / Mechanical Project Manager to help head up the development of this function, implement robust procedures, and lay a solid foundation for future project delivery.
Reporting directly to management, you will work closely alongside the estimator, technicians, and management team to ensure smooth project delivery, accurate costing, and consistent procedural standards across the business.
The company delivers complex commercial mechanical projects across hospitals, offices, schools, high-rise apartments, and live operational environments, with a focus on refurbishments and fit-outs.
The role
You will take full ownership of commercial mechanical/HVAC projects typically valued between $100k and $2M, while also developing and implementing project management procedures, templates, and best practices to ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery with high quality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
* Full project lifecycle management of commercial mechanical/HVAC works
* Program scheduling, cost control, procurement, variations, RFIs, and change management
* Preparing and reviewing project estimates, budgets, and quotes
* Coordinating site delivery teams, subcontractors, and trades
* Managing stakeholders including builders, head contractors, consultants, clients, and end-users
* Driving safety, QA, compliance, documentation, and defect-free handover
* Developing and implementing project management procedures and systems
* Confident decision-making in fast-paced, high-pressure site environments
* Collaborating closely with estimators, technicians, and management to align project delivery and commercial outcomes
About you
* Minimum 5 years' experience delivering commercial mechanical/HVAC projects as a Project Manager
* Strong exposure to refurbishments, fit-outs, high-rise/apartments, hospitals, or live environments
* Comfortable managing site challenges, subcontractor performance, and stakeholder expectations
* Structured, process-driven, and highly organised
* Experience with estimating and project costing
* Knowledge of Simpro or similar job management software an advantage
* Proven ability to implement procedures, systems, and a solid operational foundation
* Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor experience highly regarded
* Strong leadership presence, clear communication, and sound commercial judgement
* White Card and relevant safety certifications
