As a Principal Hazardous Materials Consultant, step straight into a busy, well-supported team where the work, the clients and the structure are already in place.
With a long‑serving Principal transitioning into semi‑retirement, this is the chance to become the technical anchor of a high‑performing Hazmat group and set the standard for delivery across Victoria.
You won’t be buried in management here. Day‑to‑day operations and people leadership are already handled. What the team needs is someone who loves the technical side – the tricky questions, the complex building issues, the audits that need an expert eye – and who wants to be the steady set of hands clients can rely on.
The Role You’ll lead the technical delivery of hazardous materials work across a mix of transport, industrial and property projects. The bulk of the workload is already lined up, with clients staying on and ready to transition to you. Your focus is quality delivery, technical oversight and being the go‑to resource when the team hits something complex.
Specifically
Lead technical delivery across hazardous materials assessments
Division 5 & Division 6 audits, asbestos management and compliance
Mould assessments and oversight of the growing mould services stream
Clearances, air monitoring and general occupational hygiene work
Provide expert‑level review, troubleshooting and technical guidance
Support workload management and project delivery alongside the existing senior team
Work closely with juniors and seniors as they continue developing capability
Leverage an in‑house laboratory in Melbourne for efficient turnaround times
Who You’ll Work With You’ll join a mature, stable consultancy with a 20+ person environmental and hazmat group in Melbourne. The Hazmat team is five strong, with a mix of juniors, seniors and another Principal overseeing operations. It’s a grounded, collaborative environment – no egos, no micromanagement, just people who enjoy the work and want a technical expert in their corner.
They value someone who is calm under pressure, commercially aware, and confident enough to make the right call when it matters. If you like being the person people trust for the hard stuff, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Bring
Strong hazardous materials background (D5/D6 essential)
Experience across asbestos, mould, clearances and building‑related Hazmat work
Comfortable being the technical go‑to for a team
Ability to manage workload and support project delivery
Strong written reporting and technical review skills
