Join our Defence capability in Canberra and work alongside a high-performing team supporting complex capability, program and strategic advisory work across the Defence environment. We are seeking professionals who understand how Defence operates and want to contribute to nationally significant work while building their careers in a growing practice.
You've built your Defence expertise within the APS, ADF, or consulting landscape, developing capability across strategic writing, capability development, program and project management, cost and commercial advisory, and strategic planning. You thrive on turning complex, high-stakes priorities into clear, structured advice, and supporting delivery that makes a tangible impact.
This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in meaningful ways and shape work that supports critical national priorities.
What You'll Do
This role suits consultants who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery support in complex Defence environments. In practice, this looks like:
* Support complex Defence capability, program and strategic advisory engagements across a range of client priorities.
* Contribute to strategic writing and government-facing deliverables, including briefs, submissions, strategy documents and other high-quality written products.
* Provide advice and delivery support across Defence capability development, program and project management, and strategic planning activities.
* Apply commercial acumen and analytical capability to help solve complex problems, inform decisions and strengthen program outcomes.
* Work collaboratively with clients and internal teams to support large Defence programs and capability development initiatives.
* Contribute specialist input in areas such as cost analysis, cost estimation, commercial advisory and program support where relevant to your background.
What you'll bring:
Our strongest performers are commercially minded, analytical and collaborative, with the judgement and adaptability to deliver high-quality work in complex, high-trust environments.
Due to the nature of this work, candidates must meet the following essential requirements at the time of application:
* Hold an active NV1 security clearance, at a minimum, at the time of application.
* Be currently based in Canberra, or have a confirmed plan to relocate to Canberra within the next two months (please ensure this is clear in your application)
Beyond these essentials, the experience and strengths below will help you stand out:
* Demonstrated experience working in the Defence environment as an APS employee, ADF member, contractor or consultant.
* Experience supporting large Defence programs and/or Defence Capability Development activities.
* A sound understanding of the One Defence Capability System and the broader Defence operating environment.
* The ability to operate at Senior Consultant or Manager level, with strong judgement, communication skills and a client-focused approach.
* Strong commercial acumen, structured thinking and analytical capability.
* Capability in one or more of the following areas: strategic writing for government, Defence capability development, program and project management, cost analysis, cost estimation, strategic planning, or commercial and program advisory.
* While not essential, candidates will be highly regarded if they have a background in Navy, Cyber or Intelligence.
