About the Role
Aged care facilities and older people living in their own homes are in need of companionship and friendship. As a volunteer visitor, you will make regular social visits to provide emotional support and engage in activities with residents or older people.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit participants at least once per fortnight
- Engage in activities such as listening to music, playing cards or board games, reminiscing, or simply having a chat
- Consult with groups on their interests and preferences for activities and plan accordingly
- Maintain regular communication with our support officer to discuss visits and any concerns
- Record and submit monthly reports
- Respect participants' rights to confidentiality and privacy
Skills and Qualities
- Show empathy for mature-aged, disadvantaged, and socially isolated clients
- Be comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Possess effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrate an interest in providing humanitarian service and adhering to Red Cross principles
- Commit to visiting for a minimum of one year
- Ability to work within Red Cross guidelines and policies
