About Us
The Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate holding interests for Wuthathi people in land and sea country in north-eastern Cape York Peninsula centered around Shelburne Bay. These interests include connection for 1,182 square kilometers of land including mainland, coastal and offshore islands and 8,072 square kilometers of sea country within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Coral Sea.
Our Custodians are responsible for undertaking Wuthathi cultural and environmental management activities to maintain and care for our Country. They will demonstrate cultural competency, a strong work ethic, initiative and the capacity to solve problems while working in a remote location. This is a unique opportunity to support the return of Wuthathi people to manage their Country.
About the Role
As the Custodian, you will work directly on Country to ensure our land is cared for and maintained by engaging in:
* Cultural heritage management
* Weed management
* Fencing
* Pest and feral animal control
* Fire management
* Scientific surveys/monitoring
* Sea country management (including vessel-based trips and in-water surveys)
* You will also contribute to scientific research, land records and education by:
* Documenting land and sea conditions through reports, photos and videos.
* Working with visiting scientist, Elders and/or traditional owners to experience and study Country
* Supporting relationships with agency and NGO partners, landholders and Traditional Owners to implement work plans and projects.
About You
We will consider candidates who:
* Are identified as a Wuthathi Person
* Holds, or can acquire a Blue Card
* Holds a Manual Licence
