About the Operator Role
The job of an Operator and Maintenance Technician is to oversee key equipment manufacturing at both research and production facilities on a university campus.
* Key Responsibilities:
* Operate critical lithium-sulfur cell manufacturing equipment in controlled environments.
* Prepare materials according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and quality standards.
* Record production data, monitor equipment performance and product quality, and escalate deviations.
* Perform scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
* Maintain plant and facility equipment, replacing worn components to minimize downtime.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
* Diagnose and repair faults across automated and semi-automated manufacturing systems.
* Respond promptly to equipment failures to minimize production disruption.
* Work with engineers to resolve complex issues and implement corrective actions.
* Support installation, commissioning, calibration, and integration of new equipment and processes.
* Manufacture jigs, fixtures, and ancillary components to support process improvements.
* Assess equipment performance and contribute to continuous improvement and upgrade initiatives.
* Required Skills:
* Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Machinist, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
* 5+ years in manufacturing, production, or pilot-scale environments.
* Experience with automated systems, precision equipment, and material-handling systems.
* Hands-on experience in mechanical repairs, machine operation, commissioning, and fabrication (incl. CAD, machining, or rapid prototyping).
