The University invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified staff within the School of Science, Technology and Engineering for the position of Associate Dean (Research).
About the Role
The Associate Dean (Research) consults with and advises the Dean and School Board on all Research matters. As the Chair of the School's Research sub‐committee they provide leadership and ongoing direction to the development and implementation of strategic Research objectives within the School and across campuses. They also play a key role in the development of new academic programmes, curriculum review, accreditation (both internal and external), and oversee the effectiveness of WIL and interprofessional learning initiatives. The Associate Dean also plays a key role in managing teaching workloads, sessional allocations, and appointments. There will be an appropriate workload allocation made for this role to be determined in discussion with the Dean of School.
Key Responsibilities
* Developing, implementing, delivering, and reviewing Research frameworks and associated strategies across the School.
* Innovative course design and delivery including meeting quality standards
* Driving key strategic and operational Research initiatives
* Working closely with the Dean and other members of senior management to oversee program assessment and review to ensure that students achieve required learning outcomes
* Guiding and coaching an academic team comprised of multiple disciplines to promote collaboration and achieve continuous improvement and the scholarship of Research
* Fostering a collegiate environment and a strong sense of community amongst staff in multiple disciplines to support the merger into the new School of Science, Technology and Engineering entity
* Managing key aspects of the school's workforce related to Research, such as workload, sessional allocations, and appointments
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Essential
* Substantive appointment within the School at Level C or above for the duration of appointment.
Applicants must demonstrate
* High level academic, administrative and governance capabilities.
* Leadership skills and the ability to manage staff, financial and physical resources effectively.
* A commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to Research.
* Experience of fostering collaborative relations with stakeholders.
* Outstanding interpersonal, communication, team building and leadership skills to work effectively in a multi‐disciplinary and multi‐cultural environment.
* Strong personal qualities and collegial approaches that contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment which is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of achievement for both staff and students.
* Evidence of regular participation in, and contributions to, staff development activities, and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.
Appointment Details
* Duration: Two (2) year appointment
* Eligibility: Open to current fixed‐term or continuing academic staff within the School of Science, Technology and Engineering who hold a substantive appointment at Level C or above for the duration of the role.
