About the Role

As an AOD Counsellor within the Strong Steps Program, you will deliver evidence-based therapeutic support to a diverse client group aged 13 years and over. This includes individuals, families, and those referred through community and justice pathways.

You will provide comprehensive assessment, counselling, brief interventions, advocacy, education, and referral pathways, supporting clients to build resilience and achieve positive outcomes.

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled professional who is committed to supporting people experiencing substance use challenges.

To be successful, you will have:

* A minimum Diploma in Counselling (or higher in Social Work, Psychology, or related field)
* Experience delivering counselling within a recognised therapeutic framework
* Strong understanding of AOD best practice and harm minimisation approaches
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to diverse client needs
* Strong organisational, administrative, and documentation skills
* Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
* High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail
* Demonstrated computer skills (MS Office, data systems, reporting)

Highly Regarded

* Experience working in the AOD or community services sector
* Experience supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
* Understanding of the social, cultural, and health issues impacting First Nations communities
* Experience delivering brief interventions, counselling, and advocacy

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver high-quality, evidence-based AOD counselling and support services
* Provide comprehensive client assessments, screening, and care planning
* Work from a strengths-based, client-centred, and culturally appropriate approach
* Support clients through counselling, brief intervention, advocacy, and education
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to program development
* Build and maintain strong networks with community organisations and stakeholders
* Maintain accurate and timely case notes, reports, and program data
* Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development
* Contribute to quality improvement and accreditation standards
* Promote a safe working environment in line with WHS requirements
