Assistant Directors, Various Roles, Affirmative Measures - Indigenous

Annual salary + 15.4% employer super contribution

TheNet Zero Economy Act 2024(NZEA Act) established the Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) as a statutory agency in December 2024.

The authority is presently establishing itself as a separate entity, including off-boarding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). The authority is expected to transition shortly to being a separate entity from PM&C, at which time, all employees will transfer under Machinery of Government (MoG) changes to the authority.

Our vision is to deliver a better future for industrial regions, communities and workers in a net zero economy.

To deliver on our vision, we have defined three core missions that guide our efforts.

* Help workers in coal and gas facilities affected by the transition to prepare for, and find, new well paid, safe and secure jobs.
* Support communities significantly affected by the transition to net zero to prosper, including through economic development and investment.
* Be a trusted and influential voice to build understanding of, and shape policy on, the net zero economic transition, particularly in the regions.

This process will be used to fill multiple vacancies across a number of different teams within the authority. For detailed information on the teams and roles, please refer to the downloadable candidate information pack.

What you will do

About the Roles

We have a number of Policy and Program, Executive Level 1 Assistant Director roles available across the authority. As an Assistant Director, you will be expected to work under limited direction with accountability for outcomes that are relevant to your specific role and likely manage a small team of staff.

Assistant Directors are also encouraged to take a leadership role within the broader Divisions and across the authority, helping to support and motivate others, engage with the Executive, represent the authority and the Commonwealth and work independently with key stakeholders.

* Proven analytical and policy skills, including the ability to apply critical thinking to deconstruct problems, identify, and effectively manage risks.
* Highly developed organisation and communication (both verbal and written) skills.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, to confidently and professionally engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Strong attention to detail, with the ability to assess information and use good judgement to meet stakeholder needs.
* The ability to be flexible to changing work requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor staff in a supportive and collaborative manner, contributing to a positive culture and enhanced capabilities.

Identified Position

This position has direct engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers, or is involved in the development of programmes and policy. You will require a high level of cultural competency, including:

* demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples,
* demonstrated high level ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, and
* demonstrated high level capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.

This vacancy is an affirmative measure - Indigenous position, which is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

For the purpose of this particular recruitment, all candidates will be required to provide confirmation of heritage documentation. This is a mandatory requirement in order to demonstrate that the eligibility criteria is met.

* The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. This vacancy is only available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait people.
* Under section 22(8) of thePublic Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing. At PM&C to be eligible for this position you should be an Australian Citizen at theclosing date of application, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
* The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
* The successful candidate will be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check, and will normally be subject to a six-month probation period if new to the APS or has not yet completed their probation period elsewhere in the APS.
