The role

Whilst you are an active and senior member of the Safety team, you will be fully embedded as a key member of the Major Projects Team developing, implementing, monitoring and administering Safety systems process, tools and site operations in a construction environment specifically the Macquarie Wharf Redevelopment and its interfaces. This role will support the Health and Safety Advisor (Major Projects) based in Devonport. The role will establish plans, systems, practices, and tools moving into construction, working closely with programme and project managers, technical teams and contractors to build safety, environmental and quality capacities across whole of site.

Whilst primarily based in Hobart, statewide travel will be required as needed.

Responsibilities

The role's primary purpose is to protect workers from significant injury and fatality, protect TasPorts and its Officers from fines or prosecution for breaches of WHS and Marine safety legislation, and to encourage and facilitate learning, development and continuous improvement

The role requires sound decision-making and the ability to prioritise and respond to safety issues in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment. It will be expected to exercise judgment, escalate risk appropriately, and influence behaviours through strong professional relationships.

About you

Bring your extensive knowledge of contemporary health and safety in an infrastructure planning and delivery environment to make a positive difference by championing a collaborative approach, building strong relationships, and fostering effective communication across all levels of the organisation.

The key experience we are looking for includes:

* Support the implementation of the TasPorts Safety Strategy across project areas
* Provide practical, solution-focused safety advice and guidance to all levels
* Build safety capability by coaching and influencing leaders at all levels to model and reinforce safe behaviours
* Provide specialist interpretation and application of health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and internal procedures
* Conduct or support safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal standards, project scope and legislative requirements
* Conduct or support risk assessments and maintain risk registers
* Facilitate and support incident investigations to ensure root causes are identified and meaningful corrective actions are implemented, including leading ICAM investigations when required
* Conduct monthly reporting against safety KPIs
* Development and or refinement of existing Workplace Health and Safety systems, processes and tools for designated Major Projects
* Undertake WHS and contract assurance activities of contractors and TasPorts works as it applies to the designated Major Projects
* Provide support to the TasPorts Major Projects team generally to improve contractor WHS performance in line with WHS legislation, contractual obligations, TasPorts standards and good practice
* Administer and champion the Major Projects contractor induction system (Civica), ensuring compliance with Major Projects and associated contractors and consultants

What you will have

Essential

* Tertiary qualification in relevant Health, Safety and Environment and demonstrated work experience to equivalent level;
* Drivers Licence; and
* Ability to successfully acquire and hold an MSIC

Desirable

* Incident investigation Training
* Lead Auditor Training
* Training qualifications
* Hold or ability to successfully acquire a White Card - Working in the Construction Industry
