Our team

Geoscience Australia is undertaking an Organisational Transformation Program (the Program) to design and implement operating model changes to ensure that the organisation remains fit for purpose into the future. The Program will undertake organisational design and incorporate recommendations from recent internally initiated reviews and audits. The Program will align activities into cohesive, achievable workstreams that will allow us to deliver effective long-term change. The Program will uplift key areas to improve our performance, resilience and impact and ensure that the organisation can continue to successfully deliver into the future.

The role

The Change Manager provides critical GA-wide analysis, expertise and advice on change management and stakeholder engagement for the Organisational Transformation Program. This is a specialist role that provides change leadership and influences organisational culture and behaviour to ensure that the program outcomes are achieved and sustained.

The Change Manager develops and implements a comprehensive change management and communication strategy and plan for the program, aligned with the program objectives and the Geoscience Australia Strategic Plan 2028. They work collaboratively with program workstream leads, project managers, business owners, and other key stakeholders to identify and manage change impacts, risks and issues, and to design and deliver effective change interventions and activities, including coaching individuals and teams to engage with, adopt and apply change. They also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the change management and communication initiatives and report on the progress and outcomes of the change management plan.

The Change Manager leads and fosters a culture of change readiness and resilience, by leading staff and stakeholders to participate in and contribute to the program, and by creating and supporting a collaborative and learning environment for change adaptation and innovation.

As a member of the leadership team of the Transformation Program Office, this role also contributes to the broader direction and governance of the program.

In this role you will:

* Work collaboratively across the organisation to develop and maintain an understanding of Geoscience Australia’s key business priorities and processes, as well as the current and desired organisational culture and behaviour, in order to inform and forecast change needs and opportunities.
* Develop and communicate a clear and compelling change management and communication strategy and plan for the program, aligned with the program objectives and the Geoscience Australia Strategic Plan 2028.
* Establish and oversee a robust and agile change management and communication framework and associated change management principles, tools and methodologies, to ensure that change impacts, risks and issues are identified and managed effectively, and that change interventions and activities are aligned with the program strategy, objectives, and values.
* Lead and foster a culture of change readiness and resilience, by empowering and leading staff and stakeholders to participate in and contribute to the program, and by creating and supporting a collaborative and learning environment for change adaptation and innovation.
* Build and develop the change management and communication capabilities and skills for the program, by providing coaching, mentoring, training and support to program workstream leads, project managers, business owners, and other key stakeholders.
* Maintain awareness of emerging change management and communication trends and best practices of relevance to Geoscience Australia, including building and sustaining strategic relationships with key vendors, partners and stakeholders to leverage change management and communication resources and expertise.
* Work collaboratively with program workstream leads, project managers, business owners, and other key stakeholders to design and deliver effective change interventions and activities, such as stakeholder analysis and engagement, impact assessment and mitigation, communication and engagement, training and education, and benefits realisation and evaluation.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the change management and communication initiatives and report on the progress and outcomes of the change management plan, using appropriate metrics and measures.
* Work collaboratively with the Program Director and the leadership team of the Transformation Program Office to contribute to the broader direction and governance of the program.
* Lead and exemplify a healthy and safe working environment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct.

To be successful in the role you will:

* Have broad change management and communication knowledge and a passion for applying change management and communication to deliver value for Geoscience Australia and its stakeholders.
* Understand and be able to apply Australian Government change management and communication policies and frameworks, as well as adapting relevant best practices from other industries.
* Be able to communicate complex change management and communication concepts to a range of stakeholders with varying backgrounds, including senior executive.
* Apply your specialist expertise in developing, maintaining and guiding delivery of change management and the communication strategy and plan.
* Maintain an awareness of emerging change management and communication trends and identify opportunities for Geoscience Australia.
* Demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills including the ability to build productive professional networks, establish a clear and compelling vision, work collaboratively to deliver outcomes and to influence for success.

Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

* Minimum 3 years’ experience in organisational change using best-practice methodologies and frameworks.
* Change management qualifications highly desirable.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
