Centre Cook – Early Learning Victoria
Location: McClelland Secondary College, Melbourne.
Salary: $53,865 – $71,182.
Role Purpose
The Centre Cook will plan and prepare a nutritious rotating menu for all children at the service, ensuring meals meet Early Learning Victoria's Eating and Drink: Health Nutrition and Food Safety Policy, dietary and cultural requirements, and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and serve balanced meals and snacks for children.
* Ensure food is culturally appropriate and meets specific dietary requirements.
* Manage food ordering, stock, and inventory to comply with budget requirements.
* Maintain the kitchen, equipment and premises in compliance with the Food Safety Act and ELV policies.
* Update and keep the Food Safety Program current.
* Implement ELV policies and the Child Safe Standards in all food-related practices.
* Communicate effectively with staff, families and children to meet their nutritional needs.
Required Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience as a cook or chef in a high-volume, child‑care setting.
* Sound understanding of the Food Safety Act.
* Strong organisational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to adapt menus seasonally and manage budgets.
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
* Proficiency in maintaining a safe, clean environment for children.
Qualifications
* Certificate in Food Handling.
* Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
* Valid Employee Working with Children Check.
* First Aid, anaphylaxis and asthma qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
* Mandatory Reporting online learning module (or willingness to obtain).
* Could be supplemented by a Police Check for overseas applicants.
