Primary objective
Provide practical on-site support for a range of land management programs and activities to ensure delivery of
Stage 3 of the Rum Jungle Project.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Government (NTG), in partnership with the Commonwealth, have been developing a
leading practice rehabilitation strategy for the former Rum Jungle mine site since 2009. Stage 3 of the
rehabilitation project will deliver the complete construction and works program. The workplace is characterised
by changing priorities, rapid turn-around times and requires considerable resilience and flexibility.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake a range of land management activities such as weed spraying, fire mitigation and controlled burns,
camera trapping (feral animal control), revegetation and minor infrastructure repairs.
2. Undertake monitoring and reporting activities such as revegetation, soil and erosion monitoring.
3. Provide field support to the Health, Safety and Environment team as required to meet seasonal demand.
4. Undertake seed collection, plant propagation and revegetation activities.
5. Work as part of a team to deliver practical solutions to issues where necessary.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to obtain Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent relevant land management
experience.
2. Ability to follow direction from the Team Leader and stay on task by following a clear work plan.
3. Ability to undertake field-based activities including seed collection, propagation, erosion, and pest (plants and
animals) control or similar.
4. Good communication skills and an ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
5. Ability to follow Health, Safety and Environment rules in the field.
6. Demonstrated cross cultural awareness, including understanding cultural sensitivities.
7. Must hold a current Northern Territory C Class Drivers Licence
