Primary objective
The position is responsible in providing leadership and management to the electrical safety team to meet the strategic goal of reducing
harm to workers or repetition consistent with the NT WorkSafe Strategic Plan priority and electrical industries. The manager needs to
triage incidents, safety concerns and requests and assign team members as appropriate while reassessing priorities on a daily basis.
Context statement
You must be able to apply safety compliance, judgement, leadership, writing and regulatory law enforcement skills to contribute to the
successful delivery of NT WorkSafe's statutory functions and strategic objectives.
The incumbent is required to possess the skills, qualifications, training and experience to be considered for a statutory appointment as an
appointed inspector. The incumbent may be formally delegated statutory powers under legislation NT WorkSafe administers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and strategic direction to the compliance team, in delivering the required outcomes of the NT Government in
regulating all industries with respect to electrical safety.
1. Work collaboratively with the leadership team to inform, set and drive the strategic direction of the organisation.
2. Represent NT WorkSafe at external forums including with industry and other agencies at both the local and national levels.

3. Provide technical and administrative advice to the Electrical Safety Regulator and Work Health Authority on matters pertaining to and
issues arising from the electrical safety compliance.
5. Prepare and oversee the preparation of accurate, well-researched and thorough recommendations, reports, and briefing papers,
inquiries, inspections and compliance enforcement activity conducted in accordance with policies, processes and procedures.
1. Oversee the effectiveness, and continually improve NT WorkSafe compliance policies, processes and procedures.
2. Triage incidents, safety concerns and dispatch to inspectors for action.
3. Review decisions made by inspectors and provide feedback on the application of legislation.
4. Coordinate an ongoing program of ongoing professional development for inspectors.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven results through working collaboratively and cooperatively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and building
organisational capability, responsiveness and effectiveness.
1. Proven ability to lead and manage resources, both human and financial within a regulatory framework.
2. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with high-level negotiation, conflict and presentation resolution skills.
3. Demonstrated understanding of legislation and industry profiles and experience in technical standards.
4. Understanding of national and local electrical issues and regulatory initiatives.
5. Proven personal drive and integrity, acts professionally and impartially at all times and ability to represent in public and internal forums.
6. Interacts effectively with people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and perspectives and the ability to travel if required.
Desirable
1. Relevant qualifications for example in Workplace, Health and Safety, Law, Business, Project Management or Public Administration.
2. A current Northern Territory Unrestricted Electrical Mechanic's Licence, A Grade Electrical Mechanic's Licence, or an equivalent
interstate or New Zealand licence.
3. Knowledge of emerging technologies impacting electrical standards.
