Primary objective
This role is responsible for developing, operationalising, and supporting the Department of Education and Training’s (DET) strategy,
governance and policy with particular focus on digital technology, information and data to improve student outcomes.
Context statement
The Strategic Projects branch ensures that programs and projects align with agency, Northern Territory Government (NTG), and
Australian Government priorities. It promotes and maintains program management standards, ensuring consistent delivery and
portfolio reporting. The branch also leads the response to strategic digital technology priorities and guides the department’s digital
direction. The team develops and implements tactical plans to ensure the efficient delivery of enterprise applications and digital
services, working closely with business areas, One NTG partners, consultants, and business analysts to achieve outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake critical analysis to provide strategic advice on DET and NTG strategies and strategic policies, in particular those with
relevance to technology, information and data.
2. Support the development and implementation of strategy, a digital policy framework, and key policies to drive the departments’
improvement agenda and ensure accountability to the public.
3. Support agency governance of technology, information, and data.
4. Manage the development and implementation of key strategic projects, including governance, monitoring, and reporting.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex matters through
transparent verbal and written briefings.
2. Demonstrated ability to use strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills to interpret complex documents and provide high level
advice and recommendations.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of corporate governance, accountability systems and project management.
4. Experience in the development and operationalisation of strategic frameworks, governance, and work plans to accelerate the
achievement of business objectives.
5. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including the
ability to collaborate and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, governance, project management or a similar field.
