Solicitor and Research Officer, Ongoing opportunity
1. An ongoing position has become available in the DCS Legal Services team based at Parramatta Square
2. Provide timely, high quality legal advice and effective advocacy in a range of jurisdictions.
3. Clerk Grade 7/8 ranging from $106,025 - $117,363 base per annum + Super.
TheDepartment of Customer Service (DCS) is a service provider, regulator andcentral agency of government.
Underthe supervision of a Managing Lawyer, you will provide sound representation andlegal advice to NSW Fair Trading in promoting the protection of consumers,tradespeople and businesses in NSW.
You will be required to appear and/or instruct in prosecutionmatters and draft legal documentation related to these matters.
You will alsohave carriage of civil and administrative proceedings on behalf of NSW FairTrading.
You will be required to provide legal advice in relation to othermatters arising in regulatory enforcement and investigations.
If successful, your key responsibilities willinclud e:
4. Providing timely, high quality legal advice in criminal, administrative and civil matters across a range of legislation administered by DCS.
5. Drafting documents including advices, pleadings, submissions and other court documents, preparing transactional documents, reviewing, drafting and negotiating documents, drafting briefing notes and correspondence.
6. Conducting criminal prosecution and/or civil matters primarily in the Local Court, District Court and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and briefing and instructing counsel where appropriate.
7. Providing timely, high quality legal advice in respect of priority investigation matters.
8. Analysing and interpreting complex legislation and participating in legislative projects.
9. Assisting clients and other key stakeholders on a range of matters by providing timely, high quality legal advice that supports those clients and key stakeholders.
10. Contributing to the maintenance and update of systems, ensuring the integrity of data and consistency of legal services
11. Assisting in developing and delivering guidance or training material to clients and key stakeholders

The Key Requirements for this role include:
12. Hold a current practising certificate in New South Wales
13. Knowledge of two or more of the following: regulatory prosecutions; criminal law; administrative law; and NSW Court and tribunal practice and procedure
14. Legal research skills
15. Proven advocacy skills, or willingness and potential to develop those skills
16. Proven negotiation, stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills
