Primary objective
Provide leadership, strategic and operational management for the Wildlife Operations branch to ensure implementation of
statutory obligations and policy goals of Government for the protection and management of wildlife in the Northern
Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the administration, compliance and enforcement of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 (Act) as it
relates to wildlife; develop and prosecute robust legal cases as required.
1. Manage and provide strategic leadership of the branch's program including the provision of high-level advice to the
executive team, proactive identification and management of risks, and design and promulgation of appropriate policy,
procedures and public education and information in relation to wildlife management.
1. Lead and develop a specialised but geographically dispersed team of adequately trained and equipped staff to undertake
required functions with confidence and professionalism.
1. Build, maintain and develop effective and strategic relationships within the Department, sector, profession, stakeholders
and the community.
1. Represent the NT at a national level as directed on matters relating to pest animal, wildlife crime and environmental
threats.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to manage a geographically dispersed team to achieve program objectives.
2. Demonstrated high level communication skills with the capacity to express complex ideas clearly and fluently and respond
appropriately to professional or public scrutiny in a manner that fosters respect, trust and credibility.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislation of a relevant discipline with experience in associated
enforcement and regulation systems and how they impact clients and stakeholders as well as deliver the Department's
business goals.
1. Knowledge and experience analysing, interpreting legislation, researching and synthesising complex information into
succinct policy advice, together with a well-developed political and organisational awareness and responsiveness
including the ability to maintain confidentiality and generate multiple alternative solutions to complex problems.
1. Demonstrated success in sustaining productive working relationships and partnerships with a range of internal and
external stakeholders with proven skills in dealing with conflict in a constructive manner.
1. Ability to understand and empathise with the different aspirations, cultural values, economic situations and political
sensitivities of landholders and users, including Aboriginal people and traditional owners.

1. A tertiary qualification in a relevant business, science or land management discipline
