Task & responsibilities
Responsibilities:
The Welder/Metal Fabricator is responsible for the high-quality welding, fabrication, and assembly of metal components and structures required in the manufacture of Cable Handling Services' products. The role ensures that all work meets engineering drawings, specifications, production schedules, and relevant WHS standards.
Duties:
Fabrication & Welding
•Perform MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding to a high standard (AS**** Structural purpose as a minimum).
•Fabricate, assemble, and install metal components and structural frames used in the manufacture of cable handling products.
• Interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications to determine job requirements.
•Cut, grind, mark out, shape, and form materials using workshop machinery, hand tools, and fabrication equipment.
•Conduct in-process and final component inspections to ensure accuracy and conformity with specifications.
Workshop Equipment & Materials
•Operate and maintain workshop machinery, power tools, and welding equipment in safe and reliable working condition.
•Carry out basic servicing and report damage or defects promptly.
• Assist with material handling, stock checks, and the identification of material requirements.
Production & Collaboration
•Work cooperatively with team members and supervisors to support production schedules and manufacturing deadlines.
•Complete time sheet, production records, and quality documentation accurately and on time.
•Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to efficient workflow and production outcomes.
Work Health & Safety
•Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe workshop environment in accordance with WHS legislation and company policies.
•Participate in toolbox meetings, pre-start meetings, safety audits, and risk assessments.
•Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly using the correct methods.
•Undertake tasks in accordance with safe work policies and procedures, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, safe work practices, and directions by the Supervisor
•Use appropriate PPE at all times.
General
•Completion of any other reasonable and lawful task requested by the Fabrication Supervisor or other management.
•Participate in scheduled training programs
•Maintain confidentiality of all information relevant to the scope of the role.
Qualification & experience
Qualifications:
•AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training
•AQF Certificate IV
Experience:
•At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication, with proven skills in welding, cutting, and assembly.
•Experience with various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, etc.) and familiarity with metal cutting and shaping equipment.
