We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Abuse Law team in our Melbourne office, with full-time or part-time arrangements considered, supporting lawyers working with clients in highly sensitive and meaningful matters. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is highly organised, detail-focused and confident working within established processes, while bringing empathy and professionalism to client interactions.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-level administrative support to lawyers, including file management and document preparation
* Deliver excellent service to our clients, including responding to client enquiries promptly via telephone and email correspondence
* Draft and format correspondence and legal documents
* Draft and file court documents using electronic filing systems such as CITEC and RedCrest
* Prepare/compile briefs, letters and correspondence
* Prepare for trials and hearings, including organising and serving documents on relevant parties
* Manage workflows, key dates and file progression
* Communicate with clients, law firms, barristers, court staff and other external stakeholders in a professional, respectful and trauma-informed manner
* Request and maintain relevant records
* Assist with inbox management, diary coordination and general file administration
* Support the team to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records
Skills & Experience
* Prior experience as a legal assistant or legal administrator (experience in abuse law, personal injury, medical negligence or similar practice areas highly regarded)
* Empathetic, confident and personable with a genuine interest in Personal Injury Law
* Strong attention to detail and excellent document production skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
* Confidence and care when working with sensitive and confidential matters
* Ability to show initiative
* An interest in contributing to the development, maintenance and refining of systems and processes within the practice
