About us
Tutoring Tree provides friendly, personalised, one-on-one academic tutoring aligned to the ACT curriculum. We help students build confidence and skills through clear, step-by-step teaching, targeted practice, and explaining the \"why\" behind concepts.
The role
We're hiring ACT Academic Tutors to support students from Years 1–12 across Maths, English, Science, and other academic subjects. Sessions are mostly after school/evenings and weekends. You'll run in-home sessions around Canberra (own car required) and/or online.
You may also deliver our structured Head Start Program for Year 11–12 Maths (we provide resources and session plans). Head Start sessions are paid up to $50/hr.
What you'll do
* Teach engaging, personalised 1:1lessons (in-home and/or online)
* Diagnose gaps, explain concepts clearly, and set focused practice
* Prepare students for tests and assessments with practical strategies
* Communicate brief progress notes and next steps to families
* For Head Start (Y11–12 Maths): follow provided resources and pacing, adapt to student goals
Requirements
* Own car and valid driver's licence (for in-home sessions across Canberra)
* Strong subject knowledge in Maths and at least one of English/Science (primary or secondary)
* Ability to teach clearly and patiently, step-by-step
* ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration, or willingness to obtain
* ABN (or willingness to obtain) — contractor role
* Reliable internet and device for online sessions
* Work rights in Australia
Nice-to-haves
* Prior tutoring/teaching experience
* Recent strong academic results (ATAR/Year 12, or uni grades)
* Confidence with ACT Years 11–12 Maths (Applications/Essential, Methods, Specialist)
Hours
Flexible and student-led; typically 3–10 hours per week, with peak times on weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends. Approximate Start date: 2026 Term 1 (with onboarding and training beforehand).
