The Role

North Albany SHS is seeking a dedicated and highly capable Laboratory Technician to join our friendly Science team.

The successful applicant would support the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff by providing guidance on experiments and demonstrations that meet curriculum requirements. This includes the careful and methodical preparation of chemicals, equipment and teaching aids, while maintaining strict adherence to laboratory protocols, safety standards and legislative requirements.

A significant part of the role involves organising and maintaining preparation areas and classroom laboratories. This includes upholding high standard of housekeeping, coordinating equipment repairs and managing resources effectively. You should also oversee laboratory stock management, from ordering supplies, conducting annul stocktakes and ensuring all processes comply with departmental guidelines.

The ideal applicant will be self-motivated, well-organised and able to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently.

Eligibility

be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.

consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

Demonstrated experience working within a science laboratory, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge of science subjects relevant to the curriculum taught in secondary schools and the ability to design and construct experiments and equipment to support curriculum requirements.
Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
Demonstrated well developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
