We are seeking an Associate to join QIC's Infrastructure team to contribute to the CopperString (East) / Eastern Link project - a regionally significant transmission infrastructure development in North Queensland.
This is a rare opportunity for an Associate to gain hands-on exposure to a major greenfield infrastructure asset, working across investment analysis, due diligence, and asset management in a highly collaborative team environment.
This role is for an initial 12 month fixed-term contract with potential opportunity to join the next phase of the project and take it to construction over the next 4 years.
The Project
Eastern Link is the first stage of the CopperString project, delivering a new 330 kV transmission line from Reid River near Townsville to Hughenden. Spanning approximately 350 km, the project will unlock large-scale renewable energy generation in North Queensland, improve system reliability, and support regional economic growth. Once complete, Eastern Link will provide significant hosting capacity for renewable projects and connect communities and industry to the National Electricity Market.
The project will be delivered through a QIC-owned Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), which will oversee development, financing, construction, and long-term operations. Powerlink will continue early works and approvals during the transition phase, while the SPV builds lean in-house capability for governance, commercial, and asset management, supported by external technical and delivery partners. Major construction is targeted to commence by 2028, with commissioning expected by 2032, subject to regulatory and financing approvals.
The Role
As an Associate, you will support the CopperString project and broader QIC Infrastructure portfolio through financial modelling, analytical work, and asset management activities. You will be involved across the investment lifecycle from macro, market, and sector research, through to detailed investment analysis, due diligence, and ongoing performance monitoring.
The role requires strong analytical capability, sound judgement, clear business writing, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Asset management support, including board preparation, performance monitoring, internal dashboards, and client reporting
* Financial analysis, including financial modelling, sensitivity, and scenario analysis for new and existing investments
* Valuation analysis and coordination of independent portfolio valuations
* Investment due diligence support, including analysis of market, commercial, legal, tax, accounting, insurance, and technical matters
* Macro, market, and sector research to support investment and portfolio decisions
* Supporting investment due diligence, including attending management meetings, reviewing materials, analysing financial and operational performance, managing external advisers, and contributing to Investment Recommendations across market, commercial, legal, tax, accounting, insurance, and technical workstreams
* Building detailed knowledge across selected infrastructure subsectors
* Travel may be required depending on asset and project needs.
About You
You are an analytically strong, commercially curious professional who is motivated by long-term infrastructure investing and real-world impact.
You will bring:
* A degree in Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience
* Experience in infrastructure advisory, investment banking, consulting, or principal investing (or closely related commercial/analytical roles)
* Strong financial modelling and numerical analysis capability
* An understanding of investment due diligence and the M&A execution process
* The ability to interpret complex information and make recommendations with imperfect data
* Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
* Advanced Excel skills and solid Word and PowerPoint capability
* A collaborative, energetic working style with strong organisational and time management skills
* Flexibility to work across time zones and outside standard hours when required
