The opportunity & how you will make an impact

Urbis has an exciting six-month contract opportunity for a Spatial Analyst to join our Melbourne-based team.

As a Spatial Analyst, you will contribute to the collection, processing, and interpretation of spatial data to support strategic decision‑making and deliver practical, data‑driven solutions for cities and communities. This role involves undertaking spatial analysis, producing accurate and relevant outputs, and supporting the delivery of high‑quality cartographic and analytical products. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure spatial insights are clear, reliable, and valuable in shaping sustainable and thriving places.


Responsibilities

* Quality Spatial Solutions : Work collaboratively with consulting teams to contribute spatial services and provide clear, practical advice that supports the resolution of client challenges through fit‑for‑purpose spatial solutions.
* Cartographic Excellence : Assist in the design and production of high‑quality cartographic products that meet client specifications, align with corporate branding, and communicate spatial information effectively.
* Data Governance : Support the management, maintenance, and organisation of spatial data to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with industry standards and Urbis best practices.
* Spatial Analysis : Undertake spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks— including ETL processes and spatial queries— while applying established methodologies and quality control processes to deliver reliable outputs.
* Solution Engineering : Contribute to the development and implementation of spatial solutions, including web GIS, digital map publishing, and configuration of spatial tools and products, using market‑leading GIS technologies.
* Collaboration & Professional Development : Work effectively within project teams, share knowledge, and maintain awareness of emerging GIS tools and techniques, while following all WHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace.

* Tertiary qualification in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Urban Design, or a related field.
* Good experience with desktop GIS (ArcGIS Pro preferred) and web GIS platforms (ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online preferred).
* Capable of data manipulation (FME preferred), task automation (Python preferred), and the full suite of Microsoft Office.
