The Royal Hobart Hospital is the major paediatric and neonatal referral service, as well as the major university teaching hospital for the state of Tasmania. There is an active registrar training program including written and clinical exam preparation, research project support, and education in advanced training stream. Research is actively encouraged and supported through links with the University of Tasmania and the Menzies Research Institute. Financial support is available for conference leave. The Department of Paediatrics is managed by a team of Staff and VMO Specialists in Neonatology, Neonatal and Paediatric Emergency Transport, Paediatric Intensive Care, Oncology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Developmental Paediatrics, Community Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Child Psychiatry, Endocrinology, Emergency Medicine and General Paediatrics. In 2020 the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Paediatric and Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (NPICU) moved into a new hospital building, which brought exciting new growth opportunities for our department.
The Paediatric Department offers a truly extraordinary range of experience for Paediatric trainees with excellent consultant support.
An opportunity has become available to join our excellent, supportive team as a junior Paediatric Registrar, in Paediatric Surgery, accredited for Paediatric Training (however does not guarantee a position for 2024).
After a period of time (likely 4 weeks) you will do some evening/weekend shifts and on-call shifts when deemed appropriate – likely not until term 4, following negotiation.

Salary
$131,000 – 183,500 per annum + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging
6. Salary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
7. A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023.
8. Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
Classification
Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar)
Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work, 80 hours per fortnight, commencing 18 September 2023 until 05 February 2024.

Duties
The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
9. General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
10. Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
