We are working with a tier-1 mining operation in North West Queensland seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Smelter Projects team in Mount Isa. In this leadership role, you will deliver capital, sustaining and asset improvement projects across a complex metallurgical processing environment. FIFO and residential applicants are both encouraged to apply, with relocation and housing support available.
Reporting to the Superintendent - Smelter Projects, you will lead mechanical project delivery from scoping and evaluation through to design, construction, commissioning and handover. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and contractors, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and aligned with asset management strategies and operational requirements.
You will work closely with maintenance and operations teams to support shutdowns, plant upgrades and reliability improvement initiatives. This role offers negotiable remuneration, benefits and roster arrangements based on your experience and expertise.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver capital and sustaining mechanical projects
• Lead full project lifecycle from scope to handover
• Ensure compliance with site standards and procedures
• Provide technical expertise on fixed plant assets
• Support shutdowns and major plant upgrades
• Build strong stakeholder relationships across site
• Contribute to safety leadership and risk management
• Mentor and develop engineers and graduates
About you
• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering
• Proven background in project delivery onsite
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and regulations
• Experience with fixed plant and heavy mechanical assets
• Capability in design reviews and technical specifications
• Strong project management and cost control skills
• Effective communicator with collaborative leadership style
• Eligible for, or progressing toward, RPEQ (desirable)
