This is a genuine enterprise leadership opportunity to shape how risk is understood, embedded and leveraged across a large, purpose-driven organisation.
At DOSCEL, risk isn't just about compliance - it's about enabling confident decision-making, protecting communities and supporting strong, sustainable outcomes across our schools and central office.
We're looking for a Head of Risk who can bring both strategic thinking and hands‐on delivery, someone who knows how to design frameworks, but more importantly, how to make them work in practice.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Governance Officer, you will lead the development, implementation and ongoing uplift of DOSCEL's enterprise risk framework and systems.
This is a highly visible role, partnering closely with the Executive, Board Committees and key stakeholders across the organisation to embed a consistent, practical and forward‐looking approach to risk.
You will take ownership of:
* Enterprise Risk Framework: Designing and embedding a fit‐for‐purpose risk framework, including risk appetite, governance structures, policies, procedures and controls.
* Risk Systems & Reporting: Leading the implementation and optimisation of a centralised risk and compliance system, ensuring meaningful, actionable reporting to Executive and Board Committees.
* Risk Culture: Driving a proactive, organisation‐wide risk culture through education, engagement and practical support - shifting risk from a "check‐the-box" activity to a value‐add capability.
* Business Continuity & Emergency Management: Strengthening organisational resilience through robust business continuity planning, crisis preparedness and incident management frameworks.
* Assurance & Audit: Designing and coordinating an internal audit program aligned to the organisation's strategic risk profile, and ensuring audit actions are effectively tracked and delivered.
* Risk Advisory: Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders, providing pragmatic, commercially sound guidance on governance, risk and compliance matters.
What Success Looks Like
* A clear, embedded enterprise risk framework that is understood and used across DOSCEL.
* Strong engagement from leaders, with risk actively considered in decision‐making.
* High‐quality reporting and insights that support Executive and Board oversight.
* A well‐adopted risk system with strong user uptake and data integrity.
* Robust and tested business continuity and incident management capability.
* A visible shift towards a more proactive, confident risk culture.
About You
You're a confident, credible leader who can operate at both a strategic and operational level. You bring structure and discipline, but you also know how to keep things practical and usable.
You'll bring:
* Proven experience in enterprise risk, governance, compliance and/or internal audit, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
* A strong understanding of risk frameworks, risk appetite, controls, assurance and reporting.
* Experience implementing or uplifting risk and compliance systems.
* Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, including Executive and Board‐level engagement.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex risk concepts into clear, actionable insights.
* A hands‐on, solutions‐focused approach, with the ability to balance strategy with execution.
* Experience working across regulated environments (education, healthcare, not‐for‐profit or similar) will be highly regarded.
Why DOSCEL
DOSCEL is committed to the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children and young people, and plays a critical role in delivering education across the Diocese of Sale.
This is an opportunity to:
* Step into a true enterprise role with visibility and influence.
* Shape and uplift risk capability across a large organisation.
* Work in a values‐led environment with meaningful community impact.
* Leave a lasting legacy in how risk supports performance and decision‐making.
