An exciting opportunity supporting the Australian Defence Force, we are seeking a Data Engineer to support Ventia on a fixed term contract for approximately 6 months. The Data Engineer plays a critical role in designing the framework for the transition of Ventia Defence operating data and facilitating the transfer from SQL to Databricks. The role will plan, execute and document the transition of various applications and platforms, working alongside other developers, and data modellers to build and maintain robust data collection for further downstream modelling.

Key Responsibilities Include
* Utilise Ventia enterprise frameworks to design a data catalogue.
* Propose patterns for integration for each of 23 systems.
* Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure Databricks.
* Implement data quality checks, schema evolution, and performance tuning.
* Develop APIs for job orchestration and data delivery.
* Design and maintain Postgres schemas, indexes, and migrations (Alembic).
About You
* 4+ years in data engineering or software engineering roles.
* Proven track record of building scalable data solutions and interactive apps.
* Experience with SQL, Databricks, Azure, PostgreSQL/Azure SQL and strong use of Python.
* Baseline security clearance current, or expired is highly desired.
* Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police Check.
