The Organisation
You will be working for a large, complex organisation playing a critical role in supporting Victoria. The organisation is now looking to strengthen its commercial and contract management capability with a role that sits within a locally based team, working closely with both technical stakeholders and the central procurement function.
The Opportunity
The Contract Manager will take ownership of contract management across their portfolio, with a clear focus on translating technical scopes into robust commercial outcomes and then managing contracts post‑award. The role requires someone who can operate independently, add value quickly, and bring structure to what has historically been a reactive environment.
You'll be responsible for ensuring strong contract governance across third‑party engagements, managing variations, and commercially monitoring supplier performance against SLAs and KPIs. While systems such as Ariba and Power BI are in place, there is an expectation that you'll roll up your sleeves and undertake deeper reviews where information is incomplete or fragmented.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, the focus will be on stabilising and strengthening contract governance, identifying early commercial wins, and embedding a more forward looking, disciplined approach to how this function engages the market.
Key areas of focus include
* Converting complex engineering scopes into clear, tender‑ready commercial documentation
* Managing contracts post‑award, including variations, performance, and compliance
* Reviewing existing engagements to identify risk, leakage, and value opportunities
* Strengthening contract governance, consistency, and ways of working
* Partnering closely with engineers, project teams, and central procurement to ensure fit‑for‑purpose sourcing and contract outcomes
Skills and Experience Required
You'll bring strong contract management experience from a complex environment such as construction, utilities, transport, mining or a similarly complex environment. You're comfortable engaging with highly technical stakeholders, but able to step back and focus on commercial outcomes rather than getting lost in the detail.
You'll be confident holding suppliers to account, managing performance, and influencing internal stakeholders where commercial capability is inconsistent. This role suits a self‑sufficient operator who can hit the ground running, apply judgement, and deliver tangible value without needing constant guidance.
