The Category Manager – Direct Materials will lead the sourcing and commercial management of critical raw materials for Orora's glass manufacturing operations, including cullet, sand, soda ash and limestone. The role ensures cost-effective, secure supply while driving increased recycled content and supporting the business's decarbonisation and circular economy objectives through strong supplier, stakeholder and government engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver the Direct Materials category strategy to optimise cost, manage supply risk and increase recycled content
* Lead end-to-end sourcing including market analysis, tendering, negotiation and contract management across key raw materials
* Manage supplier performance and relationships to ensure security of supply and alignment to ESG objectives
* Monitor market and regulatory developments and adjust strategy to mitigate risk and capture opportunities
* Partner with Operations, Sustainability, Finance and Legal to support net-zero and circular economy goals
* Act as the category subject matter expert, supporting senior stakeholder and government engagement where required
About You
* Demonstrated experience in strategic procurement/category management within a complex industrial or manufacturing environment
* Degree in Chemical Engineering, Business, Sustainability or related - highly regarded
* Strong understanding of raw materials markets, ideally within waste, recycling, or cullet
* Proven ability to develop and execute commercial strategies aligned to sustainability and decarbonisation objectives
* Strong negotiation and supplier management capability, with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset that anticipates risk and challenges conventional approaches
* Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders, regulators and government bodies
* Open to hiring in either ADL & MEL
