We are seeking an experienced Development Officer Building to join the City Development and Safety team.
About the Role
As the Development Officer Building, you'll play a key part in delivering high‑quality building assessment and inspection services across the City of Burnside. Working closely with the Team Leader Building and Senior Building Surveyor, you will:
* Assess Building Rules Consent applications of varying complexity.
* Conduct mandatory building inspections to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and the National Construction Code.
* Investigate and respond to alleged breaches and undertake compliance and enforcement activities.
* Provide accurate, professional building and development advice to residents, developers, builders, and external stakeholders.
* Prepare reports, contribute to policy guidance, and represent Council in hearings as required.
* Support a positive customer experience by providing timely, professional and collaborative service.

About You
We are looking for someone with:
* Ability to read and analyse building plans, specifications and relevant legislation.
* Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and specialist systems (e.g., property/GIS software).
* Working knowledge of the Planning, Development & Infrastructure Act 2016, Regulations, National Construction Code and related guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
* Recognised building surveying qualification with current accreditation as an Accredited Professional – Building (Level 1–4).
* Experience in building assessment, inspections, and compliance functions.
* A current, unencumbered SA Driver's Licence.
This position is offered as a permanent, full-time basis classified at Level 4/5 competency based on skills and experience under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023. You will be required to undertake a National Police Check as part of the on-boarding process. You must have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this position.
