Job Overview
This role is responsible for providing assistance to the management team in relation to the procurement, storage, handling, maintenance, disposal and document control of safety and security equipment.
* Maintaining the appropriate storage of weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment, including registers that detail the procurement, issue and disposal of these items.
* Ensuring the appropriate documentation is maintained relevant to the purchase and storage of weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment.
* Coordinating the issue and receipt of weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment.
* Ensuring that weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment are maintained in accordance with procedures.
* Coordinating and documenting the disposal of weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment.
* Providing advice to management to enable effective identification and management of compliance risk and obligations.
* Implementing processes to manage the issue and use of all keys within the centre, ensuring a safe and secure environment for prisoners, staff and the community.
* Assisting the Centre Manager to ensure risk is identified and managed through the escalation of identified issues to the appropriate manager.
* Managing the procurement, storage, handling, maintenance and disposal of weapons, ammunition, keys and safety and security equipment and maintaining accurate records.
* Ensuring operational readiness and administration of safety and security equipment and correctional service facility armoury and secure storage facilities as appropriate.
* Providing submissions for specialised equipment and making recommendations regarding suitability of equipment for use within the centre.
* Ensuring the centre maintains an accurate weapons asset records system, which includes an asset replacement plan for all weapons and specialised equipment and tracks the issue, deployment and return of these items.
* Ensuring the centre maintains high standards relating to the use, management and control of armouries and associated equipment in accordance with operating practices.
* Liaising with the Staff Training Coordinator to ascertain whether staff engaged in the use of weapons have the necessary qualifications and accreditations.
* Ensuring strict guidelines are complied with for the procurement and safe storage of weapons, ammunition and security equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* Monitoring compliance across the centre in relation to required standards for weapons and ammunition usage, storage and usage of keys and safety and security equipment.
* Ensuring the centre maintains an effective key control system that allows for the recording of key procurement, issue, handling, storage, disposal and document control of all centre keys.
* Monitoring compliance with key control procedures and ensuring procedures and practices are in accordance with the provisions of the standard operating procedure for Key Management.
* Liaising with external agencies such as the Queensland Police Service, Fire, Ambulance and Health in relation to safety and security equipment matters.
* Liaising with external providers and contractors regarding key access requirements, repairs or alterations to security related items.
* Supporting and participating in systems assurance and compliance reviews in accordance with departmental requirements and processes and undertaking checks and audits.

Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.
A strong understanding of safety and security protocols and procedures is essential, as well as experience in managing inventory and coordinating logistics.
The ideal candidate will also possess a high level of integrity, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
