**The Role**

Our client is responsible for a complete range of civil contracting services in the Canberra and ACT and has developed an extensive portfolio of civil engineering projects in the region - including many significant infrastructure projects for the ACT Government.

Due to an increase in project work a vacancy has become available for a WHS Systems Manager.

As a result of this expansion, we require the services of a WHS enthusiast to maintain, update and implement WHS policies and procedures. As a leading civil contractor of high risk equipment, we require that our policies and procedures are compliant to the relevant legislation and regulations.

**Responsibilities will include (but not limited to)**:

- Ensuring the companies WHS Management system and associated activates are effectively undertaken
- To initiate, coordinate and manage all the safety related tasks
- Issue guidelines and directives as required
- Provide advice and technical support
- Ensure that all the safety documentation is up-to-date
- Risk Identification and assessments, implementing control measures and ensuring legislation and regulations are met.
- Coordinate the development of WHS risk management strategies
- Carry out Health and Safety Audits, hazard and compliance audits and work place inspections
- Develop, review and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures and documents
- Deliver relevant information and training sessions for all company staff

You will come from a civil and/or environmental background and have a good understanding of WHS policies and procedures, roll out new WHS initiatives and WHS management strategies. You will have a proven background in ensuring compliance with contractual specifications, environmental/WHS legislation and other relevant stakeholder requirements, with experience on OFSC projects being a must.

You are required to carry out onsite visits to deliver training, inspections, audits and give toolbox talks. This in turn requires you to provide WHS & QA advice and support to operational staff in implementing effective and practical WHS & QA practices to help promote a zero harm culture. This gives you the chance to develop relationships with site staff and project delivery teams' onsite and help staff understand how to use WHS & QA tailored to their day to day activities.

**Skills, Experience and other Requirements**:

- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or equivalent
- Civil experience in a similar role is a must
- Expert understanding of WHS Legislation & Regulations
- Articulate and professional communication skills
- Energy, enthusiasm and passion to be part of a team driving cultural change
- Hands on - need to be proactive in implementation of processes
