About the Role
Yumbah Sea Farms offer an exciting and diverse opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on Skipperto join our mussel farming operations at Mornington, VIC. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining the farming vessel to support daily aquaculture operations, including crew supervision, farm monitoring, harvesting support, and ensuring safety and environmental compliance at sea. The role requires flexibility and will suit a motivated Skipper interested in learning about mussel farming, with training and support given.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely operate and navigate the farming vessel in varying sea conditions, transporting crew, equipment, and harvest as required.
* Monitor farm infrastructure and mussel stock, identifying maintenance needs and supporting farm inspections.
* Assist with harvesting operations, ensuring mussels are handled and transported efficiently and hygienically.
* Supervise a small crew, providing direction, training and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
* Conduct regular maintenance checks on the vessel and associated equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
* Uphold environmental and biosecurity standards, ensuring sustainable farming practices and appropriate waste management.
* Support yard-based tasks and operations including ensuring all vessels and associated equipment are maintained, safe and fit for purpose.
* Participate in work related team meetings and activities as required.
* Adhere to WH&S policies, practices and procedures.
* Identify WHS issues and propose solutions as they arise.
* A commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Qualifications/Experience
* Master <24m NC and MED 3 licence or higher, with relevant sea time and qualifications.
* Proven boating and navigation skills, including vessel handling, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.
* Practical understanding of aquaculture operations, particularly mussel farming practices preferred.
* Strong knowledge of marine safety protocols, emergency response and first aid.
* Effective problem-solving ability to manage changing conditions and operational challenges at sea.
* Strong and effective communication skills.
* Ability to supervise and direct a small crew.
* Good level of physical fitness.
* Unrestricted work rights within Australia.
