The Opportunity
The Environmental Health team is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to provide public and environmental health expertise to guide Melton City Council in the implementation of strategies, policies and environmental health services to proactively protect public health within the municipality.
This position reports to the Coordinator Environmental Health and has responsibility for the supervision and support of the Environmental Health Technical Officer, in addition to supporting Environmental Health Officers.
This role will contribute to the success of Melton City Council by improving the health, safety and well-being of the wider community through education and enforcement activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Coordinator in developing and implementing strategic objectives for the unit and policies and procedures.
* Support the Environmental Health team to ensure the implementation of the relevant Acts and Regulations as delegated by Council. Support the processing and approval of applications for onsite wastewater management systems.
* Be the first point for onsite support to Health Officers where a two-officer presence is required for potential enforcement, guidance or other reason.
* Lead on behalf of Environmental Health, a collaborative investigation with other regulatory teams into alleged rooming houses.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
* Degree or diploma in Public and Environmental Health with relevant experience or post graduate qualifications.
* Ability to be a member of Environmental Health Professionals Australia (EHPA)
* Comprehensive understanding of and ability to interpret provisions of legislation including the Public Health and Wellbeing, Food, Environmental Protection and Tobacco Acts.
* Current valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
* Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
