Overview
Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia's leading and most respected co-educational independent schools. We are seeking a passionate, innovative and engaging Outdoor Education Instructor for a permanent 0.6 FTE position at our Mallana Campus commencing on 21 January 2026. This position is primarily working with Year 10 students.
Camp Mallana is located on the Gippsland lakes, near Bairnsdale, and provides Outdoor Education programs for Years 6 and Year 10 students from Wesley College city campuses. Programs offer five to six-day camps, using activities such as sailing, sea kayaking, bike touring, bushwalking and camping. Reporting to the Head of Program, the role requires initiative, energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with, and alongside, other dedicated professionals.
The Outdoor Education program aims to link students to the natural world, through: the use of vivid landscapes; teaching basic outdoor skills; encouraging environmental awareness and action.
Responsibilities
- Support teaching staff in the efficient running of the Mallana program.
- Demonstrate a desire and passion for working with groups of young people.
- Apply qualifications and experience in a range of outdoor activities including sailing, sea kayaking, bike touring, bushwalking and camping.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal form with a broad range of people.
- Maintain a high level of personal organisation and familiarity with computers.
- Prioritise work in a demanding and ever-changing environment.
Qualifications
- Qualifications and experience in a range of outdoor activities such as sailing, sea kayaking, bike touring, bushwalking and camping.
- Robust communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of personal organisation and computer familiarity.
Work will be undertaken across a variety of shifts including sleepovers and other night work during campouts. Accommodation and meals are provided onsite whilst camps are in session.
